Welcome to the Official website of the Nittany Grotto The Nittany Grotto, Inc. (NGI), or simply referred to as the Nittany Grotto, is one of the oldest chapters of the National Speleological Socity (NSS), being founded in 1948 and is based in State College, Pennsylvania. The grotto's purpose is to promote interest in, and advance in any and all ways the study and science of speleology and the protection of caves and their natural environment; and to promote fellowship among those interested therein. Nittany Grotto is very proud of its rich heritage and numerous contributions to the science of speleology over the past 8 decades and its on-going special relationship with the Nittany Grotto Caving Club (NGCC), the student portion of the grotto located at Penn State University.
